Cosette is the adopted daughter of Jean Valjean, although she is not aware of his real name or his past, or even that she is not his true child. She remembers nothing of her years with the Thénardiers or the abuse she suffered because of them, and believes that she spent the majority of her life at a convent. Vaguely she remembers her mother and she doesn't understand why her father will not speak of her. She is a sweet, demure, and obedient young lady who wishes to please her father in all things, but she thinks he still treats her like a child and longs for more freedom than he allows her. They moved out of the convent a few months ago, and Cosette is becoming accustomed to life in the city, which she finds both exciting and frightening. The talk of revolution and overthrowing the monarchy disturbs her a bit. She believes in freeing the poor from oppression, even though her own welfare is secure and unaffected, but she wishes it could be done without violence. I am looking for all kinds of plots for Cosette … friends, enemies, romance, adventure, intrigue, humor, or anything else. She is naive and innocent and would like to meet people from all walks of life and learn more about the world.

Marie may know Cosette just from running in the same aristocratic circles. She implies that if they know one another she'd be inclined to like her very much. Marie -could- become a confidante for Cosette about her desires to do more than what her father permits because Marie is sort've going through her own personal rennaissance in terms of discovering herself. Soon people may well be gossiping about her because pretty soon she'll be pregnant out of wedlock with Chauv's baby (babies actually but she won't know that for a long while lol) so if Cos knows about this it may become easier to open up to Marie about wanting to do "more" I dunno lol just throwing ideas out.

Henri is just starting to notice girls so he might be shy and a bit awkward.. but if he met Cosette at a party (which would be most likely if he did meet her) he would likely ask her to dance because he adores dancing.

Marie & Cosette
I like the idea of Marie and Cosette already knowing each other. Cosette has never had a mother figure in her life, so maybe they could build that sort of relationship. She would love to have a woman to confide in about all sorts of things, and if they're friends, she'll stand beside Marie even if people gossip about her and defend her if someone insults her. And she would be happy for her when she finds out she's pregnant. I would love these two to become friends.
Henri & Cosette
Cosette would be awkward around Henri too, and a bit awed, since he's the king. She would be happy to dance with him, and I can her stealing shy glances at him as they dance.

Cos & Marie: This! I love it. Marie has never been fortunate enough to have a daughter and at this point in her life she doesn't expect to have more children.. Until.. lol. So she will like it if a young girl likes her because I think she'd -like- to have that. One of the twins is a girl but lol she'll be a baby so Cos could be a very vital person for Marie as far as friendship I think She would be terribly surprised.. that Cosette likes her.. and doubly surprised when Cos doesn't shun her when it becomes obvious she's not married and is pregnant. She would have liked to have had a less messy relationship with Henri's girlfriend Helene.. but it just hasn't worked out that way. And I think Marie is aware that she can come off.. cold.. and closed off. A lot of that is because from the time she married Jean-Claude at 14.. before she felt ready.. she had to give up a lot of .. who she was.. she used to be very carefree and spirited. She loved wandering in the woods, racing horses, hawking and hunting.. And she had to give that up basically all of who she defined herself as to be someone else's wife.. to become a proper lady. And so I think that had a big impact on her personality. She drew into herself a LOT. Became.. stiff.. cold.. not mean.. certainly but like.. slow to warm up.. slow to show happiness or emotion. And now.. that's changing.. since she's become widowed and gone through mourning.. for the first time since she was girl she's got the chance to figure out who SHE is as a person.. and live the way SHE would like to.. rather than giving it up for someone else. And Cos may be curious.. about this.. wonderful, open minded person. How she became this way - ESPECIALLY if they've met before and Cos remembers her being.. kind of... stiff.. that would be even more fun. I designed a lot of her changed persona after a mistress of a French Kings Francis I and Henry II if your're randomly curious give her a wiki! She's awesome! Cos & Henri: Aww this would be fun. I'm going to ask Slayer about bringing back the May Party soo if that's all right with her as a site event they could probably dance there. He would be awed by her because she's sweet and pretty LOL. And he's getting to that age where he suddenly notices girls LOL So he would enjoy dancing with her. And you know lol anyone he can get to support him in getting rid of the Chouannerie double better lol. Which if something happens to where she sees Henri would be a good leader who knows. Maybe? LOL.

Marie & Cosette
I see so much potential in this. Marie was married to a man who restricted her freedom, and Cosette's freedom was restricted by being raised in a convent. Marie regained her freedom after her husband's death and discovered who she really was and Cosette is just beginning that journey … trying to figure out who she is and adjusting to a life with more freedom. Marie could offer Cosette some much-needed guidance and she would look up to Marie as the mother she never had.
And refusing to shun Marie when she becomes pregnant will show that Cosette has a backbone and will stand up for her friends. She's a rather blank character in the book and musical, but I want to show that she is much more than that and really develop her personality. Cosette has a quiet strength about her and she is very perceptive. She will see the good in Marie and truly needs a person like her in her life.
If they met before, it would have been in the last couple of months, because Cosette hasn't been out of the convent long. Maybe it was at a party and she thought that Marie was a bit cold, but sensed something behind the surface that made her curious to know more about her. We could even start with their first awkward meeting and develop things from there. Maybe Cosette bumps into Marie while looking around her in awe and makes her spill her drink? That would make for an awkward beginning.
Henri & Cosette
Like I mentioned above, Cosette is perceptive, so she might see that despite his youth, he takes his position seriously and cares for the common people. And it would be cool if, during their dance, she mentions that she sings, and Henri asks her to sing in front of everyone. She would be so nervous, but pleased that he had faith in her ability to sing when all she did was mention it.

Azelma & Cosette Cosette wouldn't remember her as Azelma, but she'd probably recognize her as the girl with the cut hand she and her dad brought things to--if you're integrating stuff from the novel into your Cosette. I love it that you want to expand her character. That's so great! Azelma wouldn't recognize Cosette as Cosette either, or her father as that-guy-my-parents-hate-because-he-took-away-our-slave-and-now-we're-broke, either. As an aside, I never really got the Thenardiers' logic with that one. I don't see how Valjean taking Cosette ruined them, unless eliminating that source of income was what did it. Anyway, I think seeing these two interacting would be interesting, but I have no definite ideas beyond that I think Azelma is kind of in awe of Cosette because she's so pretty and nice.

COSETTE FAUCHELEVENT
So I was wondering if Helene and Cosette could perhaps have been friends for a little while? Maybe they met a party in Paris? The two have a lot in common - Helene was kept locked up in her manor house because her mother - who was a commoner- was unmarried and pregnant. Luckily a kind Aristocrat took her and her mother in and she became a lady, but a wild one who often escaped into the forest! When things got bad her father wanted them to flee to England, but Helene pretended she was too ill to make the journey so she could stay with her love Henri. Now she lives in the forest with the rebel forces. Perhaps these two could be in correspondence with each other?

COSETTE FAUCHELEVENT Hey! So Jacquelyn has been working as a governess in Paris for over ten year now. Perhaps Jean Valjean might hire her to tutor Cosette? She might be good companionship for currently lonely Cosette!
