So after getting off to a really, really, really slow start, I suppose I will introduce myself!
I'm Ashley. I'm 24 and from southeastern Michigan (metro Detroit), and the reason for my terribly slow start in getting going on the site... is that I'm starting my last academic year in pursuit of a Master of Science in Historic Preservation. What this means is that, ideally, sometime after April I will have a job involving old buildings! Hopefully in an architectural historian-type capacity, but we'll see what happens. I still toy with the idea of going for a PhD... but there are very few PhD programs in the field, and most are in the UK. Again, I suppose we'll see what happens. I'll get a job first, and see what makes sense--because it might end up making more sense to get an architecture or law degree in the end. We'll see. I do suspect I won't be done with school forever when I graduate in the spring, however.
My undergrad was in Russian studies and international relations. I still haven't decided if my current field of study is even really a departure from that; at the time, I thought I'd get a PhD in early 20th century Russian history, but later came to the conclusion that I wasn't too sure I wanted to teach or enter the academic job market.
Anyway. Aside from RPing and otherwise writing and reading and doing research, I have a rather elderly cat. I dabble in attempts at gardening and cooking. I like to travel, but hope to be able to do more of that in the future. A grad student's stipend and schedule aren't terribly conducive to extensive travel (to be fair, my idea of a good trip is wandering either around the city or around the woods. I'm pretty easy to please). Most of my reading material is either relevant to one of the things I've studied, or... historically-set mysteries or excessively scientific things related to dogs and dog training/genetics/etc. I don't have a dog anymore, but hope to get one again when I have a stable and semi-permanent job (I also don't feel it fair to introduce my 16 year old not-huge-on-dogs cat to a puppy).
Very cool to see this place back, and I'm glad to see you all again!
