EPONINE THENARDIER
NAME: Eponine Thenardier
AGE: 16
MEMBERGROUP: Les Amis de l'ABC
You are no wilting flower, or damsel in need of rescuing. You are Eponine Thenardier, regardless of the name you might use, and you are strong enough to stand on your own two feet.
It's not as though you can rely on your parents, after all.
You used to have a friend that lived with you, and you saw her as a sister. As in every family, or so you thought, there was a favourite and a not-favourite, and you were the favourite. You took it as your due and saw nothing wrong with it, and, yes, you were horribly spoiled. But a man came and took her away, paying your parents, and you missed her. Of course, in the beginning, you missed her because without her round, all the chores she had done - which were all of them - were falling to you. But as time went by, you missed her. You often wish that you could find her and apologize to her for the way you treated her, but after a while, you put such thoughts out of your head, because it didn't do any good to dwell on it. It just made you feel guilty, and you have never done well with feelings like guilt or regret.
Eventually, you and your family had to move to Paris and change names. You are not entirely sure when you realized that what your parents were doing, and making you and your sister help do, were wrong. The awareness came in slowly and not as a sudden realization. But you know that it is wrong and hate doing it, but you don't see any way out.
You are strong and rely on yourself, but they're still your parents.
You sabotage things whenever you can, though, even when it earns you a crack across the cheek. Your morals may be questionable, but you still have them.
You make friends with the people around you quickly and easily, ingratiating yourself without even having to think about it. You are very good at sharing confidences in such a way that makes people think you've trusted them with something important, while the truth is that you've shared something you're okay with people knowing. You don't think of it in terms of manipulation, but that's what it is. You become a part of the rebellion before it even has a chance to start, running messages when you can. You're not entirely sure whether or not you agree with it completely, but you like being a part of something, of making a change.
And you fall in love with your neighbor, Marius. You hope that he may return your feelings, and you know that you should talk to him about it, but whenever you try, the words die on your tongue and you wind up talking about something else instead.
You are no wilting flower, or damsel in need of rescuing. You are Eponine Thenardier, regardless of the name you might use, and you are strong enough to stand on your own two feet. But you think, perhaps, you wouldn't mind some help, if it came from Marius.
ROLEPLAY SAMPLE:
Dani had seen Jackson at the staff briefing. She'd only been able to catch his eye for a moment, and that moment was long enough for her to see that he was very much not happy with her. Not that she really expected him to, but...
Well. She'd been hoping. Stupid hope.
Since the meeting ended, she'd traversed the school looking for him, only to find him in the spot she should have looked first. The door closed behind her with a click, and she made her way over to the figure by the pool, her footsteps making a soft padding sound.
She sat next to him in a moment of silence. He was probably ignoring her, and she was honestly tempted to get up and leave. If he wanted to ignore her, he should be able to. But she'd come here for a reason, and she had to do her best. If he still wanted to ignore her... well. She wouldn't be able to blame him, and she'd stop trying to make him deal with her. He could go on with his life, and she could work on rebuilding her life.
Again.
"I know you're mad at me. I don't really blame you."
Wow, Dani. Great way to start. Fantastic way to start.
Her feet found their way into the water and she rested her elbows on her knees as she tried to think of how to explain why she'd left him on their wedding day. "I know this isn't the best explanation, but what it comes down to? I was a stupid twenty year old." She wriggled her toes in the cool water as she tried to think of what to say, how she could possibly explain what had happened and the choices she had made. "Do you want the whole story, no holds barred? Or would you rather the quick version? Either way... I promise that if you want nothing to do with me, I'll walk out. We'll interact as little as possible for the next year, and when the year is over, I'll get a different job. I don't want to... inflict myself on you." Long hair fell heavy in Dani's face, and she couldn't summon up the energy to brush it out. Let it hang there for a little while. It could wait.
She regretted the way things had happened with Jackson, she really did. This was her trying to fix it, short of figuring out how to build a time machine. This would maybe (hopefully) be a better use of her time than trying to build that time machine. It wasn't like she was a scientist or anything. She might not be able to fix it, but she could try, and that would make a lot more progress than waiting for time to run backwards.
She hadn't meant to hurt him. The truth was, she hadn't been thinking about Jackson at all when she made her choice to run off with Mark. And maybe that was going to hurt him more, but it hadn't been actively hurtful. Dani had had a tendency to run away from things rather than deal with them, and Jackson had been one of the things she'd run from when she should have dealt.
But she was here now. Not running. And trying to deal.
Hey, look at that, apparently she'd grown up after all.
